White House Tutorial

The first tutorial exercise was to produce a model of the White House, this was my first experience of using the 3D software, it was a fun experience and I certainly learned a lot for my first tutorial. The simple allignments of boxes all became very clear during this task. Firstly I produced two boxes and alligned them one on top of the other, this was the first step of the process.
The second step was making the cylinders for the collumns by the door of the building. Because I needed six copies of these cylinders exactly the same measurement, I cloned the first cylinder to make sure they were all exactly the same, this was also simple to do once I stopped trying to copy with Ctrl + C, I ended up with about four cameras because of this!
Once the collumns were put in place, I created the triangular top to the collumns. Firstly I used a pyramid, but this didn't look right, so I used the sphere tool, but changed the sides down to three to make a 3D triangle. This was difficult to rotate correctly and get to the correct position, once correct though, it looked better than the pyramid. Then to create the windows, I simply used cloned cubes and I did the same for the door.
To create the semi-circle window above the door, I created a circle in the same way I created the square windows and  I just cut the circle in half. Then finally I created a fencing type effect on the roof, this was done simply by creating rectangles and cylinders and placing them together.

I hope to improve upon this design at a later date... Fruit/Apple tutorial to follow...

Assignment Brief

The assignment brief for 3D Modelling & Animation seems fun, the fact it is based on James Bond will make the assignment more fun and interesting as they are my favourite movies.

The task will be a challenge as I have never used the 3D Studio Max software before, being split up into two parts will make things easier to organise and will make the assignment better to manage. And having no written assignment will be good too so there is more time to concentrate on the actual project. This seems to be the most interesting and fun assignment that has been on this course so far.
